Training Description: Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) is a skills-based, peer-group intervention aimed at relieving symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and depression among children exposed to multiple forms of trauma. The Resilient response to the Effects of Stress and Trauma (REST) Program implemented CBITS in 6 Dane County School Districts in the 2023-2024 school year and at 22 schools. In this training, you will learn how to lead the 10-week curriculum-based group, understand the impacts of racialized trauma and how to present the Racial Trauma Model, and learn how to engage students in their individual 1:1 sessions that include their trauma narratives.

Learning Objectives:

After this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the CBITS curriculum and illustrate how to lead a group
  2. Identify racialized trauma and discuss the importance of addressing this type of trauma in this group setting.
  3. Integrate knowledge gained from today’s training in engaging students in their 1:1 individual sessions
