ACT was developed by the Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT)-a program of Mendota Mental Health Institute, in 1972, in Madison, Wisconsin. The ACT model has been disseminated world-wide.
In 1970 the State of Wisconsin created certification standards for Wisconsin’s Assertive Community Treatment programs and called them Community Support Programs (CSPs).
