Training Description:
This training is for the implementation of the REST (Resilient response to the Effects of Stress and Trauma) universal screener. We will go over the implementation, how to use REST Connect, and Critical Issue Email Protocols. We will outline the Collaborative Conversation process with school staff and the Journey Mental Health team which leads to referrals for students based on the results of the universal screener and student consults.

Targeted Audience: School Staff Members who will be organizing or supporting the universal screening process at their school for the 2024-2025 school year.

Objectives:
After this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the implementation of the REST Universal Screener
  2. Demonstrate how to use REST Connect
  3. Recognize the importance of the Critical Issue Email Protocol
  4. Discuss the Collaborative Conversation Process

Presenter Bios:

Nelsie Stern, LPC, Journey Mental Health Center’s Director of School-Based Services
Nelsie is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been practicing for 12 years. Focusing on trauma therapy, she worked as a school counselor in New Orleans until moving to Wisconsin in 2016. Nelsie is the Director of School-Based Mental Health at Journey Mental Health Center, which includes the REST Program, Behavioral Health in Schools, and Journey’s Internship Program. She is a co-chair of the Children’s Mental Health Collaborative.

Julia Stanley, APSW, Journey Mental Health Center’s School and Community Outreach Manager
Julia Stanley is the School and Community Outreach Manager for Journey Mental Health Center’s REST Program. She was formerly with the Healthy Kids Collaborative at UW Health. After spending her career in community health and child advocacy, she pivoted and joined the REST team in 2023 to provide strategic program planning and direct mental health services to students in Dane County.

Olivia Jones, APSW, Journey Mental Health Center’s REST Program Coordinator
Olivia Jones is the Coordinator for Journey Mental Health Center’s REST Program. Olivia received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020 and has since worked for the Dane County Department of Human Services as a child protection case worker and in the Sun Prairie Area School District as an elementary school social worker. Olivia joined the REST team in August 2023.
