Session 3: Overview of the VA Homeless Program - Friday, June 13, 2025
Description: How Many Veterans Experience Homelessness?
On a single night in January 2024:
- 32,882 veterans were experiencing homelessness.
- 19,031 veterans were sheltered, while 13,851 veterans were unsheltered.
- 8.8 percent (29,189 veterans) were men, while 10.1 percent (3,329 veterans) were women.
Evictions, unemployment, family disputes are just a few factors that complicate secure housing and economic hardship for Veterans. In this section of the Veteran’s Series, the speaker will provide an overview of the VA Homeless Program services. Additional topics covered: VA Homeless programming and the services available for a Veteran who’s experiencing or at risk of homelessness; review eligibility for services; and how to make a referral. Additionally, a review of the local community homeless services for those who may not be Veterans or eligible for VA services.
Objectives:
- Discuss the factors that impede Veterans' ability to obtain secure housing.
- Summarize the services offered form the VA Homeless Program.
- Describe eligibility for services and how to make a referral.
- Explore local resources for those not eligible for VA Homeless Program services.
Presenter: Nancy Vue, LSCW - Coordinated Entry Specialist, VA Homeless Program
Nancy supports the coordination between the Continuum of Cares within our VA Homeless Program catchment area and provides direct outreach to Veterans in the community. Prior to the VA, she worked at Journey Mental Health Center’s Gateway CSP!
